JOB DESCRIPTION:  LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR (PART TIME or FULL TIME)
POSITION/TITLE: LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
LOCATION: VIENNA, VIRGINIA

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provide server administration as part of the Systems Administration Group to Linux Servers located at AboveNet data centers located in our network. Duties include provisioning new servers, imaging, monitoring and other daily routines. Provide escalation support via phone and e-mail. Lead new deployments from the systems perspective by coordinating with customers and internal resources.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Daily monitoring and maintenance of over 100 servers.
• Perform back up, file replications and script management for servers.
• Test and apply new software and maintenance patches, including patch management services.
• Complete security audits on a routine basis.
• Administrative scripting with Perl, Python and Shell
• Plan and expand current service offerings.
• On-boarding and migrating customers.
• Provide customer support via telephone, e-mail, knowledge base program and other tools.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Related Experience:

• 4+ years Linux Server administration experience
• 2+ years Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience
• Tomcat Clustering configuration and setup experience
• Red Hat Certification Engineering experience is preferred
• Oracle Experience is preferred
• Windows 2000/2003 is a plus
• Solid experience with multi-server environment / deployments
• Ability to gather requirements, design and implement appropriate solutions
• Strong process oriented experience in terms of implementation and completion
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Servers (networking and storage)
• Familiarity with databases and web programming languages and automation
• High Availability and failover scenarios, load balanced environments
• Strong working knowledge of storage environments (SAN, NAS)
• Automation via scripting (Perl, Python, Shell)
• File Replication, File System Tuning, Upgrading and Configuring
• Troubleshooting
• Disaster Recovery
• Ability to work well with customers and in a cross-team environment and to mentor within teams
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
• Documentation processes and procedures
