One requirement for virtual teams is collaborative tools that help
workers stay connected regardless of their location. There are many
to choose from. Some tools run on your network, while others can
be hosted through an application service provider.
Tools typically offer document management with functions such as
file, application and presentation sharing, joint authoring and
white boarding, and use of public folders. Tools may offer contact
management functions such as calendars and scheduling. Messaging
functions may include chat, instant messaging, and threaded discussions.
Tools may focus on teleconferencing and audio and video capabilities.
Tools may include additional functions such as workflow management,
co-browsing, polling, voting and search engine functions.
