Multicity.com Unveils Its Free "In-the-Box" Technology

New Distribution Technology Lets Users Send Web-based Communications within E-mail Messages and Converse in Real-time with Others in Multiple Languages

TYSONS CORNER, Va.-June 19, 2000 - Multicity.com(TM), the only open, global network offering multilingual communications tools and interactive distribution channels for Web-enabled products and services, today launched In-the-Box(TM), a new and free technology that uses E-mail to facilitate the distribution and usage of Web-based communications products in 18 different languages.

"Web-based conversations, such as those seen in chat rooms, can now be held within one's E-mail, fusing the best of the Internet and E-mail together in one easy-to-use application," said Alain Hanash, CEO, co-founder and Multicity.com Mayor. "Having our tools available in multiple languages enables Multicity.com to further carry out its mission to make the World Wide Web what it was initially intended to be: a means for communicating with communities and cultures around the world free from technical and language barriers."

Multicity.com's In-the-Box technology uses the latest Java(TM) and HTML-based communications tools, enabling users to send Web-based chat rooms, message boards and voting booths through E-mail. Those receiving these communications products via E-mail will, in most cases, be able to see and interact with them instantly from within their E-mail box.

How In-the-Box Technology Works
After creating a customized chat room on Multicity.com, users and Webmasters will receive the chat room within their E-mail. They will then have the option of forwarding this live chat room to any number of recipients via E-mail, thus instantly creating a discussion group. Recipients of the E-mail will automatically see the live chat room they were sent within the text box where their E-mail messages normally appear. They also will have the ability to join in the chat room conversation while still in their E-mail and forward it to others. This conversation can expand dynamically as it is E-mailed to a growing number of people. The chat rooms are secure and, unlike file attachments, are immune to viruses. Multicity.com's In-the-Box technology enables users to receive and interact with Web-based communications tools in multiple languages directly from within their E-mail's inbox.

Business Benefits of In-the-Box Technology
In-the-Box technology empowers companies to extend their global reach and interact in real-time with their customers. For example, a record company could promote a chat event to fan club members of a rock group, who could in turn distribute it via E-mail to an infinite number of interested parties. This would enable the fan club to become a powerful virtual marketing arm of the record company, ensuring that its chat event reaches a much more expansive number of the rock group's fans at absolutely no cost to the record company and at a much faster rate than conventional marketing channels. The technology's multilingual functionality and its ability to instantly give a company global consumer access also make it suitable for worldwide market research, customer service and technical support functions. This same functionality also can be used in a corporate setting. For example, employees at an international company can correspond in real-time from offices around the world and add others to the conversation by simply forwarding the chat room in an E-mail.

Technical Specifications
In-the-Box technology works with every type of E-mail application currently available. However, depending upon the actual application, users may need to adjust their Java(TM) and HTML settings, or click on additional buttons to receive the communications tool being sent to them.
